Hacks To Lower Food Waste
Plan Your Shopping
With some smart apps you can plan out your meals and shopping lists in advance. This makes it less likely that you will waste food later on by having things that you didn’t need or use. Don’t end up with random sides that don’t go with any of your meals. Plan for the week and you will likely reduce your food waste.
Create a “Leftovers” Meal
Have leftovers you don’t know what to do with? Why not designate at least one meal a week to creating clever combinations with leftovers. Tired of leftovers? Freeze them for another time. Sometimes you don’t want to eat the same food twice or more in a week. Freezer bags are great for this.
Did you know that carbon dioxide will help keep your greens fresh? If you store your spinach, celery, and the like in a plastic bag, blow in it before sealing. This will keep your greens fresh in the fridge for longer. No more slimy kale getting tossed out!
Cut an inch off the bottom of the stalks and store the asparagus upright in a mason jar with an inch of water. Place a loose plastic bag over the top. Use a twist tie to keep them from fitting to the jar. Stored asparagus like this will stay fresh for 2 weeks. ~Mamabee
