7 Tips For Keeping Kids Healthy All Year Long

Are you looking for some simple and practical tips to keep your kids healthy all year long?

1.Proper Handwashing

One way to stay healthy all year long is proper handwashing. It is important to teach kids how to wash their hands and remove germs throughout the day.

Here are great times to teach kids to wash their hands:

  • After being outside
  • After bathroom visits
  • Before Eating

2.Fuel Up With Healthy Food

It is important for children to value food as fuel at a young age. This will build lifelong, healthy eaters. Teaching children about nutritious foods is vital. Foods high in nutritional value will keep kids strong and healthy while building a better immune system year round.

3.Don’t Share

Ok, you have taught your kids to share. That’s usually great, but when it comes to personal items and food, kids need to learn not to share. This helps keep down the passing of viruses, especially at school. Personal items, that you put in your mouth, should be kept to yourself.

4. Make Sleep a Priority

If kids are getting to bed super late, it can lower immune resistance. Sleep is so important for health and proper cognitive function. The body uses sleep to restore and repair. If your children are having trouble going to sleep, you can try diffusing some essential oils.

5.Get Moving

The family who exercises together stays together. Finding fun activities, to get those bodies moving, is important at any time of the year. Start storing up some active game ideas that can be done indoors or out. Getting outside, in nature, is best, but you can play indoors when the weather does not permit those outdoor activities. Even a simple group walk can do wonders for immunity and health!

6.Limit Screen Time

Too much tv and computer time can take its toll on little bodies and minds. When used in excess, screen time can lead to a sedentary life and limit exercise. Two hours or less a day is ideal. Decrease the risk of your child developing obesity and cardiovascular disease by limiting time in front of a screen. You may even want to bring back family board game night.

7.Eat Dinner Together

Eating dinner together as a family, and discussing your day, is a great way to keep your kids emotionally healthy. Allowing your kids to “debrief” with what is going on in their lives. This makes them feel like they have a supportive team and know that you are there for them. Get them involved in helping you cook and there will be even more time to chat and help them learn life skills.
