Blue Ribbon Chili Recipe, Life Your Way
There is not much more comforting than chili on a cold day, don’t you agree!
- 2 teaspoons white sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 2 teaspoons dried parsley
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 4 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
- 1 tablespoon dried minced garlic
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 (8 ounce) jar salsa
- 1 (15 ounce) can light red kidney beans
- 1 (15 ounce) can dark red kidney beans
- 2½ cups tomato sauce
Delicious, Creamy, and yes…Warm!
- 4 potatoes
- carrots
- any other veggies you have on hand (broccoli, spinach, cauliflower, zucchini, green beans, corn…)
- 2-3 Tbs. butter
- 4-5 Tbs. whole wheat flour (gluten-free version below)**

- 2 c. chicken stock (or additional milk if you want meatless)

Pasta Primavera – All Year Long, Simple Bites
Ingredients:
Vegetables
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 1/2 cup asparagus tips
- 1/2 cup green beans, cut into 2-inch pieces
- 1/2 cup julienned carrots
- 1/4 cup peas
Sauce
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 tablespoon white wine or chicken broth
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, cut in half (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/3 cup grated Parmesan
- salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
Spring Vegetable Fried Rice, Food For My Family
Ingredients:
- 3 tablespoons canola oil
- 2 teaspoons fresh ginger, minced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups cooked jasmine rice
- 2 cups sugar snap peas
- 6-7 garlic scapes or spring onions, chopped
- 2 cups baby bok choy
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons rice wine
- sesame seeds, if desired
- white pepper to taste
Sloppy Joes are often a kid’s favorite and by leaving the bun on the side, you can turn this classic into a thermos lunch!
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 cup diced yellow onion
- 1/2 cup diced red bell pepper
- 1/2 cup diced green bell pepper (or an additional 1/2 cup red bell pepper)
- 1/4 cup diced poblano pepper (optional)
- 1 medium carrot finely grated (about 1/2 cup)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 (8 oz) cans tomato sauce
- 1/3 cup water
- 1 1/2 tsp lemon zest
- 2 Tbsp lemon juice
- 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 1/2 Tbsp molasses
- 1 Tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tsp liquid smoke flavoring
- 3 Tbsp granulated sugar
- 2 Tbsp dried parsley
- 1 1/2 Tbsp chili powder
- 1 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp salt, and then to taste
- 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper, or to taste
Tips On How To Use a Thermos For Warm School Lunches, The Organised Housewife
- Warm up thermos by filling it with boiling water and allow to sit for 10 minutes, empty water.
- Fill Thermos with hot contents (eg, hot noodles)
- Secure lid tight, place in lunch bag and remember to include a spoon/fork.
