Providing Warm School Lunches In A Thermos

Winter is here and the weather is becoming chill in many parts. How can you provide your child with nourishing, warm meals at school? By creating meals, that will fit nicely into a thermos. Here are some ideas…

You can pack everything from pasta to soup in a thermos!

Blue Ribbon Chili Recipe, Life Your Way

There is not much more comforting than chili on a cold day, don’t you agree!

Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoons white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 1 tablespoon dried minced garlic
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 (8 ounce) jar salsa
  • 1 (15 ounce) can light red kidney beans
  • 1 (15 ounce) can dark red kidney beans
  • 2½ cups tomato sauce

  • 2 c. whole milk (why full-fat dairy?)

  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tablespoon white wine or chicken broth
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, cut in half (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoon chopped fresh basil

  • 1 medium carrot finely grated (about 1/2 cup)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 (8 oz) cans tomato sauce
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 1/2 tsp lemon zest
  • 2 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp molasses
  • 1 Tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp liquid smoke flavoring
  • 3 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 Tbsp dried parsley
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp chili powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp salt, and then to taste
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper, or to taste

Tips On How To Use a Thermos For Warm School Lunches, The Organised Housewife

  1. Warm up thermos by filling it with boiling water and allow to sit for 10 minutes, empty water.
  2. Fill Thermos with hot contents (eg, hot noodles)
  3. Secure lid tight, place in lunch bag and remember to include a spoon/fork.
