The start of the 2016 school year is just about upon us, and mom’s and dad’s around the country (and world) are going to be hastily prepping lunches for their little ones for the year. But to make sure that the lunches are nutritious, not repetitive and of course, tasty!
I looked at some lunches from the Paleo websites to throw in something a little different this time. Paleo has gotten a bad rap of late, but really we’re just talking about natural foods and nothing processed. Nothing weird, nothing really new.
What The Paleo Mom does is sit down with her girls and makes a list divided by how how she will mentally divide the components of their lunches: protein, vegetable, fruit, fat, starch. The kids will say their favourite meals in each category, the ones they will always eat. She will always pack those.
New ideas are also thrown into the mix, discussing options for nut free classrooms (and egg free schools also).
“At the end of our chat, I have a (by this time fairly predictable) list of 2-3 proteins, 3-4 vegetables, 5-6 fruits, 2-3 fats, and 2-3 starches that they would love to see in their lunches.” //www.thepaleomom.com

Some of her daughter’s favorites include uncured grass-fed beef hotdogs, SeaSnax and sweet potato chips. Sometimes, canned or smoked salmon is on the menu.

Fresh veggies are a must to be included. We’re talking staples such as carrots, celery and cucumber. They are very easy to pack and store, and eat. Other options include steamed broccoli, green beans, raw spinach etc…
Here are some other visual lunchbox representations I found on the interwebs…
